Polyris, partner of the Institute of Sciences and Management of the Risks

Polyris is in close collaboration with the Institute of Sciences and Management of the Risks (ISMR) of Mons University (UMONS).

Under coordination of Pr. Delvosalle, ISMR is, in Belgium, a unique multidisciplinary structure, gathering five universities and more than 90 researchers, in the field of sciences and management of risks.

With more than twenty years of experience, the research about Risks at UMONS benefits from a wide thematic extent, covering natural, industrial and technological, environmental, organizational, socio-economic and societal risks. NATECH and Fire Risks are an integral part of the set of themes developed by ISMR.

ISMR leads research projects, offers expertise and organizes specific trainings, seminars and scientific conferences. It provides members with highlevel equipment and techniques. The institute also have scientific collaborations with numerous Belgian and foreign partners, and is part of several scientific groups and European projects.

Fire characterization:

Fire modeling is very important in assessing and managing industrial risks, and, through its privileged relation with ISMR, Polyris benefits from highly specialized expertise in Fires :

  • In the determination of the     source term (temperature,     combustion rate,…),
  • In the simulation of fire     development and smoke     propagation in buildings,
  • In the characterization of
smoke toxicity and simulation of     its dispersion in open air.

Level 1 Safety Adviser training:

All the engineers working at Polyris are Level 1 Safety Advisers.

Within ISMR, the level 1 Safety Adviser university certificate is spread over two years. It covers on one hand the scientific and technical aspect, and on the other hand the legal, psychological, medical, social and economic aspects of the issues raised by the organization and operation of safety services.

Here is an overview of the content:

  • Risks management,
  • Risk assessment and     prevention,
  • Mechanical, chemical, electrical     and environmental risks,
  • Fire and explosion safety,
  • Ergonomics,
  • Temporary or mobile worksite     coordination
